International Students
International students are an important part of the United States’ student population. At Nomen
Global, we do everything we can to bring in talented students from around the world to learn
from our curriculum. Upon arrival, these students are given the wonderful opportunity to study English while living in a new country.
Once you’ve decided to study with Nomen Global, our advisors will start working with you
on your visa application process. Not only will you receive all the necessary forms and
documents you need for that application, but our representatives will also coach you through
every step of the visa interview process. We will do everything we can to make sure your
embassy appointment goes well and you are able to come to the United States to study.
Once you’ve received your visa, you are ready to come to the United States! We will help you
plan your travel and accommodation as you make your way to Utah. Once you start classes at Nomen Global, our school registrar will make sure you stay up-to-date on your visa and related paperwork. As long as you attend class and do your best to earn a high GPA, you will have an amazing time studying English in the United States. Traveling to the USA?
You may be stressed thinking about coming to the United States, but we are here to make the process as easy and enjoyable as possible. To help with that, we asked a few students to tell us about their experiences traveling to study in a new country.
Several students said that saving money is one of the most important things to do to prepare to come to the US. When you arrive, you will be responsible for paying for tuition, housing, transportation, and other expenses. This can get expensive! If you save up and plan your budget ahead of time, you won’t be worried that you can’t pay your bills.
Other students found that the culture of the United States was very different from their own, and so it took time to understand American culture and lifestyles. Food, clothing, laws, and beliefs in the United States may be very different from what you are accustomed to, but that’s OK! Try and embrace the new and unique opportunities you will have while living in the United States.
Current students have a few suggestions for students coming to study at Nomen Global. One student suggests you “plan everything with time.” In other words, don’t leave things to the last minute. The more prepared you are, the easier the transition will be. Other students encourage you to learn as much English as you can before you come so that you will be ready to succeed at school and in life. It can be very challenging to navigate daily life in the US if you do not have basic English skills.
It is very easy to feel stress and anxiety when you move to a new country, especially when you don’t know that country’s language or culture. Remember that you are not alone and we at Nomen Global are here to help you. While you may feel alone being so far from family and friends, we hope that you make great friends during your time studying at Nomen Global in Utah. Many people are working hard so that you can have success in everything you do!
Coming to the US on an F-1 Visa
An F-1 visa allows students to come to the United States to study. Once an
SEVP-registered school accepts you into their program, you can begin applying
for your F-1 visa. All international students need a Form I-20 to prove their
enrollment in a school in the United States. They also need a photograph taken
under approved specifications, their personal documents (passport, birth certificate,
etc.), and the visa application form. With all of these materials, the student will
schedule and attend an appointment with a US embassy or consulate in their
home country. Nomen Global will coach prospective students on this interview
process to help them have the best chance of getting approved. If the interview is
successful, the new student will receive their visa and be cleared to come to the

Requirements for Maintaining Status
Once you begin studying in the United States, you have to follow certain rules to maintain your legal visa status. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of status, expulsion from the school, and potential deportation.
To maintain your status as a student, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA, no less than 80% attendance, and be up-to-date on all tuition payments. At Nomen Global, the highest standards promote elite learning. Failure to maintain any of these requirements will put you in a probationary status. We will encourage you to correct your mistakes, but if you fail to do so, you will face the previously mentioned consequences. Loss of visa status may impact any future efforts to apply for a visa to come to the United States.
Transferring Your I-20
If you would like to transfer to Nomen Global from another school, you can request a transfer of your I-20. Speak to the designated school official (DSO) of your current school and ask them to begin transferring your records to Nomen Global. Our registrar will help you through every step of the process. As long as you have maintained status with grades and attendance, you will be able to transfer easily.

Academic Advisement
Most students attending Nomen Global are seeking to learn English through second-language acquisition. Their purpose for learning English could be academic or for other reasons. If their purpose is academic, they might desire to pass the TOEFL. Others on the educational track may be preparing to sit for Graduate Tests. Nomen Global offers academic advisement in a variety of methods throughout the student experience:

IEP: As part of the admissions and registration process, each student completes an oral interview. In this interview, the student’s speaking ability is assessed by a member of the education department. Students receive an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that is “self-completed” during the writing assessment. This IEP gives the student an opportunity to articulate their plan for their education or career and English acquisition and to state their future goals.

SEPs: During the Integrated Skills class (homeroom), students meet with their teacher and complete a Student Education Plan (SEP) conference. Faculty reviews grades and attendance with each student, as well as their ongoing education goals.
Career Advisement
During two semesters of the year, Nomen Global holds a career fair, where various professionals represent their professions and give the students the opportunity to speak to their own career goals and choices. Sections are taught on resume-building, interviewing skills, etc., and add to the career advisement for those students who are seeking career enhancement through their second language acquisition courses.
College and University Advisement
Nomen Global provides college and university advisement to our students. This includes information for colleges in the Intermountain West as well as a listing of deadlines and application requirements for those institutions.
Additional university and college advisement is provided annually during the college fair, where all students may attend college and university booths on Nomen Global campus and meet with admissions representatives. Information from those participating institutions is also available year-round.
Community Resource Advisement
Nomen Global maintains a current list of community resources that offer help in a variety of areas. Students can obtain this list independently from the Student Handbook or by contacting a member of staff or faculty. If students desire to discuss their needs with Student Services personnel, they should make an appointment.
Immigration Advisement
Students desiring immigration advisement can receive information on immigration rules and procedures and help in processing immigration documents from the Student Services department. Student Services personnel are trained in SEVP and USCIS procedures and policies to ensure this. Students are also informed of deadlines and timeframes pursuant to their own continuing immigration status. Student Services personnel are available during regular business hours to accommodate students in a timely manner.
The PDSO and DSOs receive SEVP training every six months directly from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), and they are trained in providing general answers to immigration status questions. Nomen Global has also forged professional relationships with several legal firms specializing in immigration matters. Students are referred to these firms, which often meet the students at the Nomen Global offices.
Legal Advisement
Individuals who find themselves with legal problems on occasion seek advice from Student Services staff. Nomen Global maintains professional relationships with several law firms with various specialties. They may refer students to those firms or to the Utah State Bar Association “Locate an Attorney“ website or phone number.
World-Readiness Advisement
We are preparing our students, like it says in our mission statement, “to obtain their goals for the future.” We believe that “world-readiness” will provide students the skill set necessary for academic studies or a career as well as the tasks that life, in general, will require of them.
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), in association with the National Standards Collaborative Board (2015), published the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. Nomen Global subscribes to these standards.
“World-Readiness” involves five goal areas: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. The goal standards are as follows:

Promote students’ ability to interact and negotiate meaning in spoken, signed, or written conversations in order to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.

Developing the ability to understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.

Call upon students to present information, concepts, and ideas in ways that explain, inform, persuade, or narrate on a variety of topics. (This includes the selection and use of appropriate media as well as tailoring presentations to various audiences, whether readers, viewers, or listeners.)

Call for students to use language for critical thinking and creative problem-solving.

Students can use language within and beyond the classroom as they interact and collaborate within a globalized world (The National Standards Collaborative Board, 2015).
Nomen Global’s education department provides advisement in all of these areas of transferable skills and accompanying discourse patterns that we believe prepare our students for World-Readiness.
